Remerg

Our mission is to stop the revolving door of recidivism, one resource at a time.

Our vision is a world where people released from incarceration are able to succeed and never go back.

Carol Peeples and Roohallah Mobarez are the team behind Remerg, a nonprofit based in Denver that provides Remerg.com, THE re-entry website for Colorado, as well as other programs focused on successful re-entry.

With a passion to see people succeed upon release from jail or prison, Carol and Roohallah maintain the website, answer the Remerg call line, emails and letters, support public education about fair chance employment and career path employment for people leaving prison, run the Remerg mentoring program, and connect people in and out of the re-entry community every chance they get.

We want to see people succeed, and we know that takes connections, empowering individuals with information and options, and believing in them.

A former teacher, Carol entered the field as a G.E.D. teacher at the Buena Vista facility in the late 90's. Her experience from there led to a journey of reducing recidivism, from founding the first statewide voter education campaign for people with a criminal record, to creating Colorado's first statewide written re-entry guide from prison to the community, to founding Remerg, Carol has been a positive force towards systemic change and personal success.

Roohallah spent the last three years navigating firsthand the path people face upon returning to society. After spending eight years within Colorado's correctional system, he is now dedicated to giving back to those who are still inside as well as those transitioning back to our communities.

Programs

Remerg.com

Remerg.com is for anyone struggling with the collateral consequences of a criminal record.

It doesn’t matter if you’re on probation, parole, or years out from incarceration, Remerg.com is designed to help someone with a criminal record find resources.

With Remerg.com, we encourage people to make that first step, we create connections, and we provide examples of people who’ve been successful after incarceration.

Last year, Remerg.com had 38,465 visitors, a 142% increase from 2020!

Success thru Connections

Success thru Connections is a mentoring/incubation program that provides support, guidance, and connections for an annual cohort of formerly incarcerated people.

Inspired by entrepreneur and former board member Kyle Hansen (founder of Outward Hound), Success thru Connections mentees receive support to follow their dreams, whether it’s building a small business, starting a nonprofit, developing themselves, or pursuing a career.

Through monthly Mastermind Meetings, Success thru Connections mentees check in, share curveballs, create connections, and commit to a follow-up action for the next month, providing moral support

Pathway Home

In partnership with the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment and the Colorado Department of Corrections, Pathway Home prepares people for employment before they are released from incarceration, after which, they will be connected to career path jobs and other support services.

For people in the project post-release, Remerg provides connections for the Pathway Home Project’s resource navigators, workforce partners, and the individuals leaving incarceration.

Volunteering + Events

Breaking Down Barriers

Carol and Roohallah recently volunteered for The Frederick Douglass Project for Justice at Bent County Correctional Facility, supporting the nonprofit's effort to break down the barriers between people inside and outside of our prisons.

Playground Ensemble Performance

In partnership with the Playground, this unique concert program featured multiple pieces of music that involved poems written by people that were or are incarcerated. The evening also featured two brand new Playground Ensemble commissions, including a work written by composer Claud Kasha. We also had some featured stories and videos presented by us at Remerg.
