Kaniksu Land Trust Inc

Kaniksu Land Trust is a not-for-profit organization that promotes healthy communities and healthy lands in north Idaho and northwest Montana. We facilitate voluntary land conservation by working with landowners to keep valuable lands intact, connect our community to nature so people can enjoy the health benefits of time outdoors, and use innovative educational programs to encourage a love of nature and an ethic of life-long conservation and stewardship.

“We took a huge wander around the perimeter of the PSW today, coming up the steep side of the mountain to the crooked tree. Little legs struggling bravely as they gathered feathers, bones and flowers and tied them onto their "journey sticks," mementos from the trail. We ate a picnic on the rock, using mullein leaves as plates, sang songs as we trekked, and told stories in the tent at the end of the day as rain softly pattered down.”

Conservation

Kaniksu Land Trust’s primary purpose is to help local families to permanently conserve working lands, scenic views, and habitat, which we have done since 2002. However, we have realized that private land conservation is not enough. To preserve our rich natural heritage for generations to come, we also strive to engage our community with the natural environment in a meaningful way.

Trails & Connectivity

Kaniksu Land Trust firmly believes that fostering a connection with nature not only creates a lasting impact on the individual, but also creates a community of people who are committed to protecting the outdoors and ensuring that future generations will continue to have places to be outside. We focus on creating connection to the spectacular land that surrounds our communities through trails and linkages. Trails provide a place for this vital connection to take root.
