Lambda Legal

Founded in 1973, Lambda Legal is the oldest national legal organization dedicated to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of the LGBTQ+ community and everyone living with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work.

Currently, anti-LGBTQ+ bills are sweeping the nation and legislators across the country are targeting some of the most vulnerable members of our communities such as trans youth. Lambda Legal is here to fight back. Just a few of our landmark cases include:

-Winning the right to spousal benefits for same sex couples who did not meet the 9-month marriage requirement because of discriminatory laws preventing them from getting married. This provided a pathway for other surviving spouses in similar situations to receive survivors' benefits.

-Established LGBTQ+ rights in the workplace by proving that discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation is sex discrimination and violates the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This win set a precedent that protects all LGBTQ+ workers nationwide from discrimination in the workplace.

As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, we do not charge our clients for legal representation or advocacy, and we receive no government funding.
